Adopt-a-Stream Workshop

Make a difference for future generations by adopting a stream and restoring the health of our waterways!
GVC is looking for volunteers, age 18+, to join our Adopt-a-Stream Program. It’s easy to adopt a stream! Stream Adoption simply requires you to:
- Attend this training
- Agree to clean your adopted stream segment
- Send us your trash collection data
- Watch for and report stream hazards
Adopt-a-Stream is great for individuals, families, neighborhoods, scout groups, congregations, or high school and college clubs. We can help you find an adoptable stream segment in the Gunpowder Watershed, or you may have one in mind.
Workshop Location: Ashland Presbyterian Church (116 Ashland Road, Hunt Valley, MD 21030)
Date: Saturday, April 4th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
In the workshop, you will learn about threats to the health of the Gunpowder Watershed and how to help protect and improve our local creeks and rivers. Topics include:
- Understanding stormwater’s effect on the health of waterways and landscapes
- Properly identifying and reporting stream hazards (e.g. sewer breaks, illicit discharges) and impairments
- Best practices for leading volunteers in a stream clean-up
This workshop is part of the Clear Creeks Project. Coordinated by the Gunpowder Valley Conservancy (GVC), the Clear Creeks Project is a grant-funded, citizen-based initiative that helps answer a community desire to restore the water quality within the Gunpowder Watershed. Additional funding provided by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation; Chesapeake Bay Trust; Baltimore County Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability; and Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund, administered by Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
