Edible Bayscape Workshop
August 10, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Create a beautiful yard, preserve local waterways, and protect the Chesapeake Bay.
Join us for a FREE “Introduction to Edible Bayscapes” workshop by Patricia Ceglia, Landscape Designer for the Gunpowder Valley Conservancy (GVC)’s Clear Creeks Project.
Learn about design and installation of an edible bayscape, benefits and maintenance best practices. This workshop will be held at Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church where a new Children’s Garden, installed this spring as part of the church’s Bay-Wise Project, is in full bloom with native perennials, edible herbs and even fig trees!
Topics will include garden site selection, the role of native plants, maintaining soil health, watering, weeding and pest control.
No gardening experience required! Since the garden has already been planted, you won’t even have to get your hands dirty. Come see how easy it can be to create similar Bayscape gardens at your home, business, and/or place of worship.
Location: Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2504 Cub Hill Road, Baltimore, MD 21234
What to expect: Bring a personal water bottle. Participants are not required to wear face masks during this event. The event will be held outdoors .
This workshop is part of the Clear Creeks Project. Coordinated by the Gunpowder Valley Conservancy, the Clear Creeks Project is a grant-funded, citizen-based initiative that helps answer a community desire to restore the water quality of the Bird River, Loch Raven East, Loch Raven South, Lower Gunpowder Falls, Middle River, and Tidal Gunpowder watersheds. Additional funding provided by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation; Chesapeake Bay Trust; Baltimore County Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability; Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund, administered by Maryland Department of Natural Resources; and BGE.
