Rain Garden workshop – Timonium (FULL)

October 21, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Get your hands dirty for clean water. Learn about the benefits of adding native plants to your landscape.

A rain garden is a special, water loving garden that helps soak up rainwater from your roof, driveway, or other hard (impervious) surface.  It is designed to capture water from a 1″ rainstorm and slowly infiltrate it back into the ground. By using an assortment of beautiful native plants, rain gardens can also provide habitat for wildlife, beneficial insects, such as ladybugs, and pollinators like butterflies.

Registration is now closed for this workshop (10/11/23). Please visit our online calendar of events to register for other rain garden workshops.

What will I do at the workshop?

  • Learn about stormwater runoff and how it affects local waterways
  • Learn how to divert rain water draining from hard surfaces to a rain garden
  • Gain hands-on experience planting several native plants into a newly built rain garden

What to bring?: Dress for yard work (long pants, hat, closed shoes, sunscreen) and bring your own water bottle.

This workshop is part of the Clear Creeks Project. Coordinated by the Gunpowder Valley Conservancy (GVC), the Clear Creeks Project is a grant-funded, citizen-based initiative that helps answer a community desire to restore the water quality within the Gunpowder Watershed. Additional funding provided by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation; Chesapeake Bay Trust; Baltimore County Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability; Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund, administered by Maryland Department of Natural Resources; and BGE.
