Land Preservation Monitoring

November 7 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Help preserve land and wildlife habitat in the Gunpowder watershed for future generations

Did you know that Gunpowder Valley Conservancy (GVC) has facilitated the preservation of 2,000+ acres within the Gunpowder watershed? We are actively seeking new volunteers to serve as Land Preservation Monitors. You will be paired up with an experienced volunteer to learn the process and gain experience.

When a landowner decides to preserve their land, they enter a voluntary legal agreement (conservation easement) that protects the property’s conservation value (agricultural, historical and/or natural) for future generations. GVC is required to monitor all such conservation easements to ensure the easement’s terms are being upheld. Monitoring also provides an opportunity for GVC representatives to meet with landowner(s) to discuss any recent concerns (e.g. erosion, non-native invasive plants).
