Valuable field experience available for college student interested in the environment!

The Gunpowder Valley Conservancy (GVC) is a non-profit land trust and watershed organization located in Baltimore County. We are seeking an energetic and physically healthy volunteer to assist in maintaining recently-planted trees. Work will be done throughout the Gunpowder watershed to assist the GVC Reforestation Program. Tree maintenance involves removing invasive plants, checking planted trees to see if the shelter needs to be removed and removing if necessary, digging out the planting tube, and making sure the plant is upright.

 

This is an unpaid position. Hours are flexible and can include weekends. Willing to commit 20 hours per season, for at least one season in 2018.

 

Required: Must be age 18+; must provide own transportation; and be able to lift up to 40 lbs.

 

Essential qualities needed include:  Honest, hard worker; ​ability to take instruction and apply consistently; willing to work outside in an open field environment with high, flowering weeds; willing to work in the heat as well as cold temperatures; attention to detail; ability to work without direct supervision; and able to take initiative.

 

The ideal candidate will have: Minimum of 1 year college level course work; working towards degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, botany, or natural history.
